Trip description

Bangkok – Kanchanaburi – Khao Sok – Krabi – Koh Mook

Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, is a great city known for its richly decorated shrines and bustling streets. Filled with boats, the Chao Praya River feeds its network of canals and passes through the royal district of Rattanakosin, home to the opulent Grand Palace and its sacred Wat Phra Kaeo temple.

Located in the province of Surat Thani, Khao Sok National Park is one of the oldest tropical forests in the world! In the heart of nature, jungle, karst mountains, sublime lakes, impressive caves, waterfalls, you’ll meet gibbons, elephants and many other species…

Incredible Krabi! This coastal province boasts countless natural attractions that never fail to amaze. Add to this white sand beaches, waterfalls, coral reefs, clear waters, caves and numerous jungle-covered islands. It’s no surprise that tourism has been booming for several years now. Like Phang nga, Krabi is famous for the fascinating limestone karsts rising above the azure waters.

Koh Mook (or Koh Muk) is famous for its magnificent emerald grotto, which can only be reached by swimming – a veritable pirate’s lair! With very few resorts and still untouched by mass tourism, this charming little island is inhabited mainly by sea gypsies. It’s the ideal starting point for discovering the paradise islands to the south of Koh Lanta, including Koh Hai (or Koh Ngai), Koh Kradan and Koh Rok.

What you will experience

Amon Tour has designed a number of enriching activities for you to fully discover Southern Thailand. Take advantage of our exclusive private tours to explore the natural wonders of Krabi: Phang Nga Bay (including Koh Yao Noi, Koh Kudu, Koh Roi), Railay Peninsula, the local islands of Ao Nang (including Koh Poda and Chicken island).

On the program: primary forest trekking, dream beaches and karst cliffs, elephant encounters, marvellous lagoons and snorkelling on an unspoilt seabed…

An exceptional stay that will leave you with a lifetime of incredible memories and anecdotes to share!

21 Oct - Day 6Khao Sok: meet the elephants, jungle meal and night walk

Private English-speaking Thai guide

Arrival at Surat Thani train station (around 7:00 AM). Our driver will meet you and take you to Khao Sok village (approximately 1.5 hours by road).

At 10:30 AM, meet your guide, who will take you to an elephant sanctuary. The key principle of this sanctuary is to ensure the elephants are not forced into any activities and instead have an enjoyable experience. You will first get acquainted with the elephants by feeding them bananas. Then, you’ll prepare nutritious food balls using a mortar and pestle, which you’ll take along on a short walk to the river. The elephants will naturally follow, drawn by the food.

Upon reaching the river, you’ll feed the elephants. If they wish, they can drink, splash around, or bathe, but this is rare, especially for elephants that have previously been bathed by tourists. This excursion is designed to provide a respectful and enjoyable experience for the elephants.

Return to the hotel around 12:00 PM. Lunch at your own leisure.

At 4:30 PM, set off with your guide for a jungle trek in Khao Sok National Park. Your destination will be a special spot where you’ll prepare your dinner using jungle survival techniques. You’ll assist your guide in preparing bamboo, leaves, and the fire pit, just as it’s done in the wild.

After enjoying your meal, prepare your gear for the return trek to your hotel. During this night walk, your guide will lead you along hidden trails, home to a rich variety of wildlife that you may have the chance to spot.

Return to the resort around 9:00 PM.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Private English-speaking Thai guide

Our driver will be waiting for you at the reception of your hotel in Khao Sok around 8:30 AM. After about 1.5 hours of driving, you will arrive at the lake pier, where your guide and boat will be waiting for you.

As you cruise towards your floating bungalow complex, the captain will take a few scenic detours to let you admire the breathtaking beauty of the lake. Once you arrive, settle into your floating bungalow and enjoy your first swim in the crystal-clear waters…

After a delicious Thai lunch, dive back into the water, explore the surroundings by canoe, take a refreshing nap, or simply relax and admire the stunning scenery.

In the afternoon, your guide will take you on a jungle trek. The specific hike will be chosen based on the location of your floating hotel, visitor density at the time, and your preferences and abilities. It lasts between 2 and 3 hours (shorter if desired) and may include a cave visit or a viewpoint. In any case, you are in for a journey full of fascinating discoveries…

By late afternoon, embark on a boat safari along the shores. Enjoy the landscape bathed in the changing light of dusk while your guide tracks signs of wildlife. Keep an eye out for macaques, dusky leaf monkeys, hornbills, and eagles searching for their last meal of the day.

Return to the floating bungalows at nightfall, where a delightful dinner awaits—fresh lake fish, curry, and other delicious Thai specialties.

Overnight in a floating bungalow at Praiwan Rafthouse

23 Oct - Day 8Khao Sok: continuation of your stay on the lake. Wat Bang Thong temple and continuation to Krabi

Wake up early to the sounds of the jungle, possibly the calls of gibbons. Your guide will take you on a second wildlife safari along the lake’s shores—departure at 7:00 AM (you can grab a coffee before setting off!). Early morning is the best time to spot wildlife: you might see macaques coming for a drink, monitor lizards basking on branches, dusky leaf monkeys leaping between trees, or even gibbons singing in the canopy. (Of course, sightings are never guaranteed, but nature is full of surprises!)

After the safari, enjoy breakfast back at your floating bungalow. Take a final swim in the lake before your captain brings you to the Cheow Lan Lake pier around 10:00 AM.

From there, a private transfer will take you to Ao Nang, Krabi (approx. 2-hour drive). Along the way, your driver will stop for a self-guided visit at Wat Bang Ton, a stunning golden temple dedicated to Rama X, the current King of Thailand.

For lunch, you’ll dine at Le Bac à Sable, a local favorite offering delicious cuisine with a beachfront setting.

Advice to travelers

  • Here are some tips for your stay in Thailand:
  • ♥ Attention, most payments are made in cash in Thailand: it may be useful to ask your bank to raise the withdrawal limit for the time of your trip.
  • ♥ We recommend that you make a minimum of change at the airport (max.50 €) as the commission fees are generally higher than in the city center. Privilege the big Thai national banks: Bangkok Bank, KasiKorn Bank, Siam Commercial Bank. Do not make the change in France.
  • ♥ Provide an unlocked phone to buy a local phone chip that costs almost nothing. Savings guaranteed from the first minute of use, even for France and unlimited internet. (Choose preferably networks: True Move, AIS or DTAC).
  • ♥ Anti-mosquito product to buy locally (available in all grocery stores – at 7 Eleven for example), much more effective than the products that can be found in France.
  • To put in your suitcase:
  • ♥ Plan what to cover you in public transport, they are often over-conditioned.
  • ♥ For your sea trips, bring: cap, sunscreen (which respects the environment), UV T-shirt, sunglasses, beach towel, a spare and a rain jacket (just in case!). Masks, snorkels and life jackets are provided.
  • ♥ A pair of water resistant shoes.
  • ♥ A backpack for your day trips.
  • ♥ We recommend traveling light to bring back more memories 🙂
